Ms. JoAnn Fay Meeks

Mrs. JoAnn Fay Meeks, daughter of the late Willie T. Lawson and the late Luellen Lawson, was born in Dallas, TX on November 19, 1942. She accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, uniting with Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Oakland, CA and was baptized as a public confession of faith in Christ by Rev. Simms. After the family moved to Pittsburg, CA., she united with First Baptist Church under the pasturage of the Rev. Woods. Later, she united with Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, CA under the pasturage of Rev. Fleetwood Irving. In 1979, Rev. Lester Cannon Sr. became the Pastor of Cornerstone, where Joann remained a member until her death. She received her primary education in Pittsburg, CA, before graduating from McClymonds High School in Oakland, CA. She furthered her education by receiving her Associates Degree from Diablo Valley College in Concord, CA. Then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from San Francisco State University. JoAnn met Willie Richardson (Mickey) and with this loving relationship came a daughter Tammy Lawson-Taylor. JoAnn then met and later united in holy matrimony to George Earl Meeks in Oakland, CA in 1963. This union was blessed with one daughter, Angela, and two sons, Aaron and Dion. The family moved back to Oakland and she became employed by the United States Postal Service for 5 years, later she became employed at Alameda County Social Services where she retired after 38 years of service. JoAnn Fay Lawson-Meeks departed this life on August 21, 2014 and was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Luellen Lawson and husband George Earl Meeks. JoAnn leaves to cherish her precious memory; two daughters, Tammy Lawson-Taylor of Antioch, CA; Angela Meeks, Hayward, CA; two sons: Aaron Meeks (wife Monica), Antioch, CA and Dion Meeks, Oakland, CA; God daughter Reatha Lee of Modesto, CA; three brothers; Wiley Lawson of Jacksonville, TX. Willie T. Lawson Jr. (wife Gloria) of Lexington, KY; Renny Lawson (wife Avis) of Modesto, CA; 9 grandchildren Andre, Tamika, Ashley (husband Andre), Tanaya, Dionne, Erin, Aaron II, Darren, Marissa, Camille, Gabrielle, Tre'von; 10 great grandchildren Brittney, Taejah, Dremari, Aryana, Daelon, Dominique, Andre, Jasmine, Aaron III; niece, Narvis and many more that loved her as Nana! Also a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
