Blacksburg -- Joann Ledbetter Peterson, 84, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at The Cherokee Medical Center in Gaffney, SC. Joann was born on February 01, 1941 in Gaffney, SC to her late parents, William Allen and Sarah Elizabeth Beattie Ledbetter, and was the widow of Doyle Wayne Peterson. She was retired from Timken, and was a member of Broad River Baptist Church.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by three daughters, Kelly Speight (Randy), Amanda Gibson (Eric), Carla Atkins (Ray); son, Steve Peterson; sister, Dottie Hardin; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joann was preceded in death by one son, William Joseph "Joey" Peterson; and sister, Jewell Hardin.
A visitation for Joann will be held on Friday, January 2nd, 2026, from 2:00-3:00pm at Gordon Mortuary. Her funeral service will follow at 3:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Phillip Martin officiating. Burial will be at Clingman Memorial Gardens with her grandsons, Caleb Gibson, Noah Gibson, Chase Gibson, William Peterson, and Tanner Speight serving as pallbearers.
