Joanne Carter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 15, 2025.
JOANNE CARTER (formerly Ellison) was born in Mebane, North Carolina to Marvin Lee Ellison, Sr. and Lucy Clemons Ellison on October 5, 1947. Joanne was called home to the Lord on October 12, 2025 just after her 78th birthday at her daughter's home.

Joanne was a native of North Carolina but resided in Pottstown, PA since early childhood when her family migrated north. Joanne was a graduate of Pottsgrove Senior High School and married her high school sweetheart Bruce Wayne Carter Senior. Joanne was a devoted family woman and master homemaker. You could always count on her for a delicious meal, a loan, and her honest opinion. If you needed something done right, you could always count on Joanne.

Bruce Jr. gave her the nickname "World's Biggest Boss" and he was spot on. Joanne was a virtuous, classy woman with natural beauty. She loved her children and siblings unconditionally, and cherished the time they spent together. Some of our fondest memories were during birthdays, holidays, and the Clemons family reunions.

Joanne was preceded in death by her beloved son Bruce Wayne Carter Jr., her baby brother Antoine Dewayne Ellison, and her brother Marvin Lee Ellison, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 56 years Bruce Carter Sr.; her daughter Sheree Carter Chase and son-in-law Derrick Chase; three brothers, John L. Ellison, W. Patrick Ellison, Pablo R. Ellison; three sisters, Virginia Wright, E. Maxine Knight, and Barbara Reid; six grandchildren Jordan Andrew Carter, Brice Andrew Carter, Jared Anthony Carter, and Janae Alyse Carter, Masiah Elijah Chase and Zion Prince Carter Chase; and a host of other family and friends.
