SALEM- Ms. Joanne (Cook) Cooke, 85, of Exeter, N.H., formerly of Salem, died peacefully, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at her home.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Jean B. and Beatrice (Otis) Cook. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1955.
Ms. Cooke began her professional career at the former Salem Laundry Company as a Presser, she matriculated to the former Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem and then to Salem State College where she had been employed as a Custodial Forman for over 25 years until the time of her retirement.
A loving, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Joanne was truly devoted to her family. She supported her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. Family always came first to Joanne and she set a great example of what a great mother is to all.
A long-time resident of the City of Salem, Joanne enjoyed spending her time playing Bingo and more recently had resided in Exeter, N.H. She will be deeply missed.
Joanne is survived by her children, Chester E. Cooke III and his wife, Rose A. of Beverly, Debra M. Campana and her husband, Richard Jr. of Hamilton, Mark A. Cooke and his wife, Karen of Amesbury, Becky S. Bonnell and her husband, Curt of Salem, NH, Raymond J. Cooke and his partner, Susan Meldrum of Lynn and Joanne M. Barbarito and her husband, John of Nottingham, N.H., her son-in-law, Robinson Whitten of Woburn, her 13 grandchildren, her 20 great grandchildren, her siblings, Patricia Boyarsky of NH, Shelia Cook of NY, Dennis Cook of FL and Thomas Cook of NH and several dozen nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was the mother of the late Nadine Whitten and sister of the late Marie Ouimette, Jean Cook Jr., Robert Cook, Henry Cook and George Cook.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM, Monday, April 18 at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours prior to the service from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon. Committal service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, North St., Salem, Tuesday, April 19th at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joanne's memory to Pancreatic Cancer Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave, Ste 200, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266 or online at pancan.org.
