Joanne Mary Johnson, age 98, passed away on February 28 2026 at Mission Point Nursing and Rehab. The beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, of Holly and Linden, Michigan, was born June 29 1927 in Detroit Michigan, the daughter of Joseph M Babel and Rosalia (Couch) Babel.
Joanne was born in Detroit where she met and married Ernest M Johnson, the love of her life, on January 21 1946. They were blessed with five children.
They raised their family in Royal Oak and later at their dream home of 35+ years on Tipsico Lake in Holly. Joanne was a homemaker until her youngest was in school. She worked for a dentist prior to Ernie and her starting the family business, State Wire and Terminal Inc. They traveled throughout the United States and began wintering in Florida when they retired.
Joanne moved to Linden in 2005 when Ernie died and the lake house and property became too much for any one person. In September 2025, she moved to an Assisted Living apartment at Hampton Manor of Holly, nearer to both of her Michigan children.
Joanne was proceeded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Meacham (Babel) of Chelsea MI. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon and Nancy (Mathias); her sons, Ronald (Heather), Michael and Daniel (Luanne). She had six grandchildren, Holly Scherrer (Michael), Scott, Aaron (Leslie), Tyler (Shannon) and Christina and Nick Mathias (Carolyn). She had 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Per her wishes, a celebration of her life will be held this summer and her ashes will be joined with Ernie’s in the lake.
