Joanne Paradies Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anthony Funeral & Cremation Chapels - Brighton/Rochester Chapel on May 21, 2025.
Joanne died May 13, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Gerald; and her parents Helen and T. Gentry Veal. She is survived by her children, Mark (Trish) of Ocala, FL, and Dr. Eric; grandson, Henry of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas G. (Andrea) Veal of Irvine, CA; sister-in-law, Suzanne (Alan) Hunter; nephews, Thomas, Kevin, Michael, Todd, and EJ; nieces, Megan, Ann Marie, and Katy.
Joanne graduated from Blessed Sacrament School, St. Agnes Institute of Music, and Nazareth College, where she received her BS in Chemistry. Upon graduation, she was a Senior Research Chemist for The Haloid/Xerox Company before retiring to raise a family. Motherhood was something she cherished, and although she and Gerry had wanted at least five children, she felt blessed to have two remarkable and beloved ones.
She followed in her mother's footsteps as President of the St. Louis Guild in Pittsford. When her children reached school age, she worked part time for Reed Kent doing inventory control, sales analysis, and accessory buying. When Talbots purchased Reed Kent, Joanne became General Manager for 14 years before retiring. She then was drawn to retail again, and worked part time for the Regalia Store before its closing.
She and Gerry were avid birders and Joanne developed a great interest in bird photography, putting together some great pictures. They enjoyed travel and managed plenty of it. Easter vacations with the kids were spent in Florida with Grandma and Grandpa. Deep sea fishing was a thrill, with trophies often won for the children.
She was a former member of the Alumni Advancement Committee of Nazareth College and was active in various ministries for the Church of Transfiguration.
At Joanne's request, there will be no calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Transfiguration (50 W Bloomfield Rd. Pittsford) on July 14th at 1:30 pm. An interment at White Haven Cemetery will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nazareth University General Fund, (4245 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618) or Isaiah House, (1005 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607).
