JoAnne Sherman, 82, of Louisville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 22, 2025. She was born on March 17, 1943, a St. Patrick's Day baby, to the late Harry and Helen (McQuiston) Messersmith in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
JoAnne was married to the love of her life, Tom Sherman, for 62 wonderful years. Together they built a beautiful family and shared countless memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dick Messersmith, her beloved son, Tommy Sherman Jr., and cherished pets, Boots, Sas-Su Ming, Nicholas, Mint Julep and Pumpkin.
She is survived by her husband Tom, her daughter, Barbara Sherman, her son Michael Sherman (Gina), her cherished grandchildren, aka "JoJo's 7", Trey (Sarah Ann), Will and Ellie Hubbuch; Caroline, Clint, Cole and Cam Sherman; one great grandchild, John Brooks Hubbuch, and Susie Naigan, who lovingly cared for her every day.
JoAnne was happiest when surrounded by her family, whether at home, in Naples, or boat days on Barren River Lake. She was a past member of Wildwood Country Club, Falls City Golf Association, and a current member of Hurstbourne Country Club, where she was known as an accomplished golfer, competitor, and treasured friend. She was a member of the Sunday Brunch Group where lifelong friends came together to share recipes and friendship.
JoAnne was a lifelong Catholic, with a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother. She gave generously of her time and talents as a dedicated volunteer, serving as past president of both the Junior Circle and Queen's Daughters. She was a long-standing volunteer at Our Lady's Home for Infants, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Community, Liberty House and Catholic Charities.
JoAnne was a 1961 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and attended Ursuline College (now Bellarmine University).
Her legacy was one of love, service and joy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to The Queen's Daughters, P.O. Box 7563, Louisville, KY 40257 or Catholic Charities of Louisville, 435 E. Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202.
Arrangements are being handled by Ratterman Brothers East Louisville, 12900 Shelbyville Road. Visitation Tuesday November 25th, 2:30-7:30 PM. Funeral will be Wednesday November 26th, 10:00 AM at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road.
