Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center - ChambersburgJoanne C. Shew, 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Brookview Health Care Center. Born July 3, 1932, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Arthur “Pud” and Esther Glass Cormany. Her beloved husband Ray D. Shew, whom she married on July 13, 1958, preceded her in death on June 28, 2015.
Joanne was a graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She earned her nursing degree from the York Hospital School of Nursing and was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Chambersburg Hospital. She also worked as an aide at St. John’s Nursery School from 1970-1994 and loved hearing stories from her nursery school students in her later years. Joanne was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, the York Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, the Pennsylvania Nursing Association and was active in the Falling Spring Chapter of AARP. Family time was very important to Joanne. She loved playing cards, taking vacations and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Debra Thomas (husband Steven) of Fayetteville, and Lisa Singleton (husband Tim) of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Kara R. Shipp (husband Ryan) of Chambersburg, and Evan W. Thomas (wife Darah) of Chambersburg; and two great grandchildren, Jace and Harley.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 24, 2026, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Caroline Saxton will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Nursery School, 1811 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg, PA 17202. A special thank you is extended to the Menno Haven “family” at Brookview Health Care Center and Village Square for the support given to the family and the excellent care Joanne received during her time there.
