Joanne M. (Camelio) Simpson, of Dracut, formerly of Stoneham, died Thursday, March 31, 2022 D'Youville Nursing & Rehabilitation in Lowell. She was 79 years of age. Joanne was born on December 27, 1942 in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Landi) Camelio. Raised in Somerville she was a graduate of Somerville High School with the class of 1960 and then earned her nursing degree from Somerville Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. She married Vernon L. Simpson on April 4, 1964 in her home parish of St. Catherine of Genoa. They lived many years in Stoneham before moving to Tewksbury and the last three years in Dracut. Vernon died on March 9, 2013. The role of mother and nurse often goes hand in hand but for Joanne Simpson it was her life's work. In addition to raising her five children she was a maternity ward nurse at Somerville Hospital and later Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for over twenty-five years before retiring. Joanne loved the company of family and friends, following her grand kids at their sporting and school events, a good Celtics game win, a nice dinner out and a movie, and lastly, a dish of Brigham's chocolate ice cream. She leaves her children, Christine V. DelRossi, Suzanne M. Blackwell D'Arrigo and her husband Joseph, Mark V. Simpson and his wife Lisa, Karen R. Price, and Michelle L. Sweeney and her husband Paul and; her grandchildren, Danielle DelRossi, Nick and Ryan Blackwell, Katelyn and Abi Simpson, David, Corey and Kelsey Seamans, Cameron Price and Paul Sweeney; her siblings, Anthony Camelio and his wife Mary Lou, Robert Camelio and his wife Peggy and Janice DiPietro and her husband Joseph. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sincere condolences on the sudden loss of Joanne! I met regularly with her at d'Youville during her stay and brought her communion two days before her death. She was always so pleasant and caring. I am sorry she was not with us long enough for me to meet her family. With you I am grateful for her life. May she rest in God's peace. Sister Pauline Leblanc

Mom, thank you for everything. I love you and miss you. Thank you for being strong, kind and caring. You were a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. I would not choose anyone else to be my mother. I get my strength and love from you. I hope you are at peace now. I will try to keep the family close because I know that is what you and dad want. You were our rock. You will always be on my mind and in my heart. I am glad that you and Danielle had a close relationship. Danielle really cared for you. Cooper misses you. Love you (1 4 3).
