For Joe...who produced epic
cartoons such as Tom & Jerry
etc. You made an important
contribution to the entertainment
of children.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I have always shared a connection with Hanna-Barbera by virtue of having the same last name as Joseph. As I told every kid in the fourth grade; "Yes, I am related to Hanna-Barbera"

Richard Badalamente

January 27, 2008

I was sorry to learn about Joe passing away. My grandfather, Vincent Badalamente was a barber in Joe's father's barber shop. My father, Steve Badalamente, only a child himself at the time, used to push Joe in his stroller. My dad passed away in June of 2006. He was 100.

What a great guy. Even though I didn't know him personally, he always made me laugh with his work.
My sympathy goes to his family.

Jaen Johsnon (Allen)

January 12, 2007

This is Jane Meredith Allen Johsnon, Gale Tetreault's sister, and Madeline Allen's daughter. Our father Richard Allen walked Dorothy down the aisle to marry Joe since her dad was in a wheelchair. I remember meeting Nancy Sinatra who was one of my cousin's friends...either Jayne or Lynn....I can't quite remember back to 4th grade. I would love to hear from Dorothy if she remembers us at all. So sorry that Joe is gone.

thanks for the cartoons and the many many years of laughter

Gale Tetreault (Allen)

January 8, 2007

My sister Jane Meredith Johnson (Allen) and I have fond memories of Hanna-Barbera's many works. When we lived in Santa Barbera, California, our mom, Madeline Allen, took us to visit "Uncle Joe" as she called him. Dorothy Earl was our cousin; our dad's, Richard (Dick)Allen's neice. We were 10 and 12 then and we remember playing ring-toss in the backyard with Joe. I just bought his book "My Life in Toons" What a wonderful story. Before our mom, Madeline, passed away in 1993, we had the opportunity to take her to an art gallery in Arlington, VA where Joe was signing the cartoon cells. He couldn't belive his eyes when he saw her walk in.......it had been many, many years. My eldest daughter, Laurie, bought a cell that night entitled "Pebble and Bam-Bam's Fisrt Kiss". It hangs in a special place in her home. Our thoughts and prayers are sent to the Barbera family. Our love to you all, Gale and Jane (Allen)

I live in Edinburgh, and I know the cartoons were a big hit here in the UK. I couldn't wait for the Saturday shows to come on! Joe was a legacy in himself and I have come to fully appreciate the power of animation. Thanks for all the fun times, Hanna and Barbera, I salute you.

Joe Baebra lived a long and productive life. The 7 Oscars he and Bill Hanna won for the original Tom and Jerry cartoons are unprecedented. Then they proved that TV cartoons could work. And during the 30+ years of the Hanna-Barbera studios,it did work.Their early cartoons could be enjoyed by parentsd and children.Barbera was quoted as saying,"We didn't deliberately write over kids' heads, but we didn't talk down to them either."

Worked with Benny Barbera (Barney) in 1960, who, at that time, was a Long Island resident. I was told that Benny was Joe Barbera’s brother. And that Ben, as a youngster, was nicknamed Barney by his grandmother. His brother, Joe, wove that nickname into Flintstone’s fictional character Barney Rubble. Humor certainly was a Barbera trait .. Joe Barbera, on the larger scale, certainly had a great sense of humor entertaining large TV audiences. Ben, on the other hand, would always be in good humor and just had the magic to make anyone in his company laugh. May God smile on you, Joe, as he welcomes you into your heavenly home.

I don't have many good memories of my childhood, but the good ones are connected with you. I remember eagerly anticipating Friday nights at 6:30 for the Flintstones to air. How thrilling when Pebbles was born and Bamm-bamm was adopted. I wanted a Pebbles doll and I remember watching the hour long Flinstones Christmas special when Santa sprained his ankle with my own toddler. Later on my daughter gave me that video for Christmas and I still have it. In fact when our vcr died, I insisted on having a dvd/vcr unit so I could still watch that video!!! The joy you brought to countless children and adults will always live on.

Wow, the days I used to relish in the TV. screen watching The Flintstones. Then dashing into the Future with The Jetsons. Then when I saw The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones that was the Cooliest show. Yogi Bear, BooBoo, Huckleberry Hound. It was a delight to see his works. I still enjoy them even now. And I'm 60 years old. Rest in Peace Sir. Allways.

Michael Ochoa

December 22, 2006

Like most other people, I very much enjoyed watching all of the wonderful cartoons (Tomy & Jerry, Flinstones, etc.) Then when my son was just a toddler, he not only continued the next generation to carry on the viewing, but he learned to read by watching the programs. He'd read out loud all of the credits, especially the William Hanna - Joe Barbera part of it!
God Bless you, sir.

And my children and now my grandchildren grew up watching your shows. I guess my all-time favorite cartoon of yours would have to be Scooby-Doo. I have enjoyed this program since I was in High School and am still loving it to this day.Until we meet again, I send my condolences.

Thanks for all the fun cartoons and stories that I grew with in the 50's and 60's. Growing up with the Flinstones and the Jetsons. It is a funny thing, because in my daily life at work, I work with two computers that I call the old one Fred (Flinstone) and the new one George (Jetson). Talk about the fun I had as a child and growing up with all the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. I still watch then now when I have a chance and still laugh like I did as a child. Thanks again for the great memories. Best wishes to all.

Mr.Barbera you were such an inspiration to me. I'm an aspiring animator and have been drawing for years and grew up on you and Bill's cartoons. Although nearly all of them were before my time, thanks to the magic of reruns and syndication I had the opportunity to grow up watching many of them. They all influenced some of my creations as well. I really hoped that one day I could have met you. I'm sure i could have learned a lot more from you about animation. Thank you so very much for all that you and Bill have done. I'm sure that you've found each other and are having fun again. You will be forever remembered. God bless you and your family and friends. You were truly a legend.

Any American who has ever watched TV or been to the movies or even eaten cereal in the last 50 years has been exposed to a Hanna-Barbera creation.

As a teen, growing up in the early days of Cartoon Network, it only showcased cartoons from the HB library and the Looney tunes vault.

Your influence even launched Boomerang, a TV Land type channel which airs mostly your cartoons.

You have made Saturday Morning Television worth watching. And we thank you for 95 great years and all those characters. We'll see ya up the line....
