Joe was born March 6, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Joseph P. and Frances (Hansen) Bousquet. He was the oldest of five children and grew up in Dallas, Iowa, graduating from Dallas High School in 1959, the last class before consolidation with Melcher. As a teenager, Joe enjoyed plenty of fun with his friends in Dallas and remained proud of his hometown roots, returning often to the annual Coal Miner's Day Celebration every June.
In 1960, Joe was married to Joan Robuck, and they were blessed with three daughters: Pam, Sherry, and Jacinda. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Peggy Feight, and together they welcomed children: Estee and Brandon. Over the years, Joe's family grew to include 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
A devoted worker, Joe often held multiple jobs at once. He roofed houses in addition to working on the pipeline, at Ford Implement in Des Moines, John Deere in Ankeny, and later at 3M in Knoxville, where he retired after 15 years. Joe's wide range of skills made him invaluable both in the workplace and at home. A talented welder, mechanic, and builder, he enjoyed restoring VW Beetles for his daughters, rebuilding cars, and collecting antique tractors and motorcycles. He thrived on tackling projects around the house and farm, often completing them on his own.
Though hardworking and sometimes stubborn, Joe was known just as much for his sense of humor, goofy antics, and eclectic taste in movies and YouTube videos. His quick wit and lighthearted spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Bousquet; his daughter, Estee Bousquet; and his brother, Jim Bousquet.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy; his children: Pam (Wayne) Joynt, Sherry (Doug) Luedtke, Jacinda (Steve) Shafer, and Brandon (Sara) Bousquet; grandchildren: Brian, Tyler, Richard, Amanda (Robb), Holly, Kim, Kala (Justin), Sara (Jared), Cory, Josie (Andy), Brad (Summer), Logan (Danielle), and Carter; along with 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and siblings: Nancy Monk, John Bousquet, and Bill Bousquet. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will deeply miss him.
