Cumberland, MD – Joe Festus Clanagan, 82, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024, at Cumberland Healthcare Center.
Born April 27, 1942, in Washington, Virginia, Mr. Clanagan was the son of the late Earl Clanagan and Dorothy (Freeman) Clanagan. He was also preceded in death by his brother: Pete Clanagan and wife, Lily; his best friend: Sam Biggs; and his brother-in-law: Hank Page.
Joe retired from the Maryland State Highway Administration. He attended McKendree United Methodist of Potomac Park. Joe was a Washington "Redskins" Commanders fan, as well as the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals. He enjoyed playing softball for several teams in the area. Joe liked older country music, especially Patsy Cline, any other oldies music, and doing crossword puzzle books.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years: Linda Clanagan; his children: Craig Ritchie; April Hamilton and husband, Wayne; Candice Clanagan; and Christopher Clanagan; his brother: John Clanagan; his sister and best friend: Vieda Page; and his grandchildren: C.J Ritchie, Trevor Ritchie and significant other, Destinee Heinrich, Justice Hamilton, Braeden Ritchie, and Nicole Shipway; his great-grandchildren: Jazavier Clanagan, CJ Clanagan, Ce'Anna Calloway, Cay'Cee Clanagan, Cassius Wilson, and Brenna Wilson. He is also survived by a special niece: Renee Page; and best friend: James Joseph Beckwith; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Tuesday September 17, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cumberland Healthcare, especially Cindy Shreve, Stephanie Carder, with whom he had a special bond, Glenda Daniels, and many others.
