Mr. Joe Hoover Delk, 89, longtime Columbia pharmacist, died Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM at Graymere Church of Christ.

The Maury County native was the son of the late John G. Delk and the late Ruth Hoover Delk. He married the love of his life, Mable Inman, on June 14, 1960. Joe was raised in the Kettle Mills - Shady Grove Community. He often mentioned his favorite teacher Mrs. Sarah Bratton, who he lived with for a while. Joe, even in decline, could still do his multiplication drill she taught him like a computer and he had the periodic table memorized. He also lived in Florida for a short period of time, and talked fondly of that. They moved back to Spring Hill and he graduated Valedictorian from Spring Hill High School. Joe attended Austin Peay, and graduated from Southern School of Pharmacy.

Joe started as a pharmacist working at Wilson Quick, after that he bought Dysart Pharmacy and moved it to Hatcher Lane with Odell Sharp, Delk-Sharp Pharmacy which they later sold. He then opened Delk Pharmacy which later became RX Compound Center. Joe pioneered hormone therapy. His work in compounding helped women in Columbia and his compounds were shipped all around the country. Mable, Pamela Jo and Amy were there by his side all working together. Joe was a member of the National Guard for many years and early in Joe and Mable's marriage they lived in Texas. Joe was very patriotic. Joe was an elder at North View Church of Christ and later became a member at Graymere Church of Christ. He and Mable worked together for the Church anyway they were needed. Joe was a founding board member at Columbia Academy, and there again, Mable was there working with him. Joe loved going to NASCAR races in his RV, having dove hunts and fishing at his farm, travelling, and going to Nashville to music events. Joe and Mable worked hard and played hard.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mable Inman Delk, he is survived by his daughters, Pamela Jo Delk and Amy Jeanette Delk, Joe loved his girls and wanted them to be happy; brother, Charles (Larissa) Delk; sister-in-law, Audrey Scott, brothers-in-law, Larry (Jean) Inman and Hubert Hickman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary (Dudley) Hill; brother, John A. (Alice) Delk; Mable’s sisters, Evelyn (Wayne) Smith, Paulette Hickman; and brother-in-law, J. W. Scott.

Pallbearers will be Sloan Delk, Chris Hill, Tim Davis, John Hill, Tony Scott, Jarrett Scott, Barry Hickman, and Douglas Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will include Eric Previti, James Butler, Anderson Hill, Cory Primm, Chad Johnson, Joe Whitehead, Mike Hill, Jeff Lovell, Brad Smith, Hunter Smith, Larry Hickman, David Baine, Nelson Baine, and the Elders of North View Church of Christ and Graymere Church of Christ.
