Joe Bailey Farris III died peacefully on August 18, 2024, in the home he loved, with his eldest daughter, Bailey, by his side.
Born on September 25, 1959, in Beaumont, Texas, Joe was the son of Joe Farris Jr. and Billie Sue Beall. He is survived by his daughters, Bailey Farris Williams, Morgan Farris Essman, and Madison Farris; his sons-in-law Taylor Williams and Michael Essman; his grandsons, Emerson Williams and Ellis Williams; his mother, Billie Sue Beall Johnson; his sisters, Melissa Park, Susan Farris, and Amy Johnson Szewczyk; his brothers-in-law Kyle Park and Eric Szewczyk; his nieces, Jennifer Park, Kendall Farris, Emily Szewczyk, and Gracelyn Szewczyk; and his grand nephews, Kyle Bradshaw and Knox Bradshaw, Joes former spouse and mother of his children, Beth Wilson, as well as former spouse, and dear friend, Janet DuBose. Joe is also survived by his chosen family, his Pecan Grove family, his Beaumont family, his Georgetown family, his Austin family, and countless friends he made throughout his life.
He earned his college degree in Business Management and a teaching certificate in Special
Education. Both degree and certificate were earned from Southwest Texas State University, in San Marcos. In 1994, Joe opened his Farmers Insurance Agency and pursued his entrepreneurial dreams for the next 24 years.
Joe lived his life fully - He loved the outdoors and photography - embracing and enjoying all of God's beauty. His enduring mantra, "It's a great day to be alive," captured his optimistic spirit and zest for life. It's clear to see the impact he had on the people around him. He could make a friend wherever he went, and he genuinely cared about connecting with each of those friends.
He was never just "Your Average Joe."
On April 7, 2021, Joe faced a new chapter when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Carcinoma. "So my new life journey has started", he wrote that day. Embracing this challenge with unwavering faith, his new journey was guided by his deep Christian faith which provided him the strength to face each day without fear.
Joe's life was a testament to living fully, loving deeply, and enduring with grace. He will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A memorial and celebration of Joe's life will be held on Friday, August 23, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Reception to follow.
Flowers can be sent to The Gabriels Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 393 N Interstate Hwy 35, Georgetown, TX 78628.
