Joe Louis Gilmore, a beloved figure in the Mobile community, departed this life for his eternal home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was born on October 8, 1941, in Choctaw County, Alabama, to the late Jesse and Jessie Lee Gilmore. Joe was a proud graduate of Lillie B. Williamson High School, Class of 1959, and dedicated 36 years of his life working in the Maintenance Department as an Oiler for Scott Paper Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and camaraderie among colleagues. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Clara Mae Gilmore, and his siblings: brothers Jesse Richard Gilmore, Willie Lee Gilmore, and Jesse Rogers, as well as sisters Lo-Eva Gilmore and Eloise Carter. He leaves behind a vibrant legacy through his seven children: Jerel, Jermaine, Y'lonn, Lathasa, Alexis, Alex, and Miguel. He is also survived by his brother, Arvell Williams, three sisters, Mary L. Fuller, Irma Rogers (Richard), and Daisy Gilmore, all of
Mobile, Alabama, along with Twenty (20) grandchildren, 2 Great-grandchildren and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish his memory. A man of gentleness and wisdom, Joe had a remarkable ability to bring peace to those around him. His calm demeanor and wise words could turn conflict into understanding and tension into resolution. Joe's spirit radiated warmth; he had an extraordinary knack for transforming simple moments into cherished memories. Whether it was enjoying peaceful sunsets or sharing cups of coffee with friends, he found joy in the little things that life offered. It was often said that Joe lived by one simple rule: keep laughing. His sense of humor was a gift he shared generously, often turning ordinary situations into extraordinary adventures. A master of dad jokes, his wit could light up even the darkest days, reminding everyone of the importance of laughter in healing and resilience. Joe had a unique ability to lift spirits, and his infectious joy will resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. Joe's life was a testament to the belief that every moment is worth celebrating. He encouraged those around him to embrace life with tenacity and spirit, to love deeply, and to share their joy with others. He believed in making the world a better place, and he demonstrated this through his unwavering loyalty, bravery, and caring nature towards family and friends. As we gather to honor Joe's life, it is important to remember that he would want us to celebrate, not mourn. He would urge us to dance, sing, eat, and find joy in the moments we share together. Joe's legacy of love and laughter will live on, and we are grateful for the time we had with him. Let us carry forward his adventurous spirit and the lessons he imparted, echoing his tenacity in our lives.
A celebration of Joe's life will take place on July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Total Church Ministries, located at 429 S Shelton Beach Rd, Eight Mile, Alabama, 36613. May we gather in remembrance of a man who touched our lives with laughter and love, and may we commit to keeping his spirit alive in our hearts and actions. In the words of Psalm 23, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Joe's gentle spirit and unwavering faith will continue to guide us as we cherish the memories and impact he left behind.
