Joe Grimsley Obituary

Joe Edwin Grimsley

Panama City - Chief Quarter Master Joe Edwin Grimsley, Sr (Ret.), age 82, went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2021.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson and Rena Pearl Grimsley; one brother, Howard (Bub) Grimsley; one sister, Bernice (Bunny) Stubbs; a granddaughter, Magon Grimsley; one son-in-law, James (Jamie Powel; a daughter-in-law, Rita Grimsley; and a sister-in-law, Annette Williams.

Left to treasure his memories is his wife of 63 years, the love of his life, Mary Nell Grimsley; two sons, Joe Edwin Grimsley, Jr. (Cynthia) and Eddie Earl Grimsley; two daughters, Cynthia Diane Majors and MaryAnn Fontaine (John); one brother, Jerry Grimsley; seventeen grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was a Wounded Warrior from the Vietnam War. After partial recovery from Service-connected wounds, he went to work for the United States Postal Service. There he worked for seventeen years and retired. He wasn't a man to be idle, though; So back to work he went to Sallie Mae. He spent a few years there and decided to become a substitute School Teacher. This was one job that touched Joe's heart. He got to work with Special Needs Students. He loved the interaction with the kids. They were always glad to see Mr. Grimsley in their classroom. The feeling was always mutual.

Before Joe became sick, he took great pleasure in communicating with others on his Ham Radio. It was a great hobby of his, as Joe was a people person. He never met a stranger.

Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers: Christopher Grimsley, Joe Grimsley, Michael Grimsley, Ricky Roberts, Kyle Israel and Colby Corbin.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Tender Touch Home Health Care. We appreciate all that you did during our time of need.

The Family needs to say "Thank you" to Kasey Roberts for taking such sweet, gentle, loving care of Granddaddy during his time of illness. Your unconditional love shown through. The dedicated help that you gave to your Granny was beyond measure. She wants you to know just how much she appreciates you.

Dear Grandfather,

I wanted to write you a letter since I wasn't able to be there in the end. I am grateful you chose to be a father to me. I will always remember our conversations at the kitchen table where we talked about our greatest curiosities, and at times, established what we believed in. Nothing is more valuable or can take the place of the time we share with the people we love. I will miss you and, like all people, I wish there was more time. However, I know we are created with eternal souls and I´ll see you again.
