Joe Parks Harris, 95, of
Matthews, NC went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 after suffering a heart attack.
Joe was born on a snowy day at his family home on February 2, 1930 to Frank and Virginia Harris of Mooresville, NC. Joe grew up in Mooresville, working on the family farm and at Belk department store during his teen years. After graduating from Mooresville High School, Joe had a short stint in the Navy and then went to television school in Chicago to learn the "new technology" of that time - television. He returned to NC and began working in Charlotte at Snook Brothers Appliance Store. It was there that he met his soon-to-be bride, Carolyn Lowry.
They were married August 22, 1951 and were married for almost 52 years before Carolyn's death in 2003. Joe worked for 41 years at Dixie Electronics in Charlotte as a salesman, often receiving top honors for his sales ability before retiring.
Joe loved woodworking all of his life, creating many beautiful pieces including furniture, toys, and grandfather/grandmother clocks from walnut trees grown on the family farm. He was also very handy at any home project that was needed, always willing to repair, replace, or rebuild whatever was necessary for his home and family. He was a very social person who laughed easily and enjoyed being around people.
For the last 14 years, Joe loved living at Matthews Glen in
Matthews, NC., where he has made many, many good friends. He so enjoyed playing cards, working jigsaw puzzles, traveling and visiting daily with his many friends and acquaintances at Matthews Glen. He was a fixture sitting outside on the bench by the door at Matthews Glen. At one point, Joe helped with marketing, and was always a great representative and salesman for the community. He could not understand why everyone did not want to live at Matthews Glen. Joe will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Joe was a charter member of Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church for many years, and most recently a faithful member of Calvary Church. Joe loved his church and was in his seat most every Sunday until he became unable to get there. He enjoyed being an usher for most of those years.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn, and brother Kenneth. He is survived by his son Jeff Harris and wife Reba of Matthews; daughter Angela Hobbs and husband Chuck of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Jonathan Harris of Charlotte; Melissa Hibbard and husband Joel of Seward, Nebraska; Matt Hobbs and wife Mary Ann of Raleigh; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, November 3, 2025, in the chapel at Matthews Glen. Joe was privately interred next to his wife at Sharon Memorial Park.
Joe's family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. For full details and to share photos, memories and condolences, please visit www.LoweNeddoFuneralHome.com
