Bernard Joseph Levis, age 65, known to all as “Joe”, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, October 6th, 2025, with his wife of nearly 48 years at his side and his dogs Cash and Bentley.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com.
Born on December 23rd, 1959, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Bernard Delbert and Chloris Irene (Snyder) Levis. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School.
Joe was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Burns, at the Bethel Grove Church, on December 14th, 1977. He began working at Gethmann Construction, followed by VanWyk, Big 8 Tyre, Gervich and Sons and lastly in the warehouse at Mycogen Seeds.
Nothing was as important as the time spent with family- especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching westerns, collecting Hotwheels, watching the New England Patriots, listening to music- LOUDLY, his Mustang and was known as quite a knife enthusiast. Joe was one of a kind and would always tell you what he thought (or indicate it be hand gesture). He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are Mary, his loving wife of nearly 48 years; his children Joshua (Theresa) Levis and Brittni and Cody Perry; grandchildren that he adored-Anthony (Kjerstyn) Levis, Kaeli Levis, Peyton Levis, Carter Levis, Kayden Klosterman, Beau Overman, Oakley Overman and his baby girl Sutton. Joe is also survived by Tom and Jade McCoy- a man Joe looked up to like a father and took care of him to get him the best care and got him to appointments; his siblings- Diane Levis, Lorna (Denny) Betts, Cindy (Ricky) Dennis, and Homer (Penny) Levis as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In death, Joe rejoined his mom and dad Chloris and Bernard Levis, his beloved sister Janet Levis, his son, Nathia Levis, and granddaughter Makayla as well as his grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, other family members and friends.
Heaven is now a better place. If you knew him, you loved him. And Joe loved those who loved him. He was the best husband, father and papa.
Obituary lovingly written by his daughter, Brittni.
