Joe Harrison Matzek, 84, of Borger, Texas formerly of Guymon, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024 in Amarillo, Texas.
The son of Leonard A. and Christine (Harrison) Matzek, he was born March 9, 1940 in Los Angeles, California. Joe grew up on his family's farm in rural Guymon. He attended Guymon schools, graduating with the class of 1958, he attended OPSU graduating with a BS in 1966, he then attended Kansas City School of dentistry, graduating in 1972. Dr. Joe served his county during the Vietnam War as a Major in the United States Air Force, he practiced dentistry in Thailand and England. Following his honorable discharge, he farmed in Guymon. While he enjoyed dentistry, he was always a farmer at heart. He was also an avid reader of history, farming and medical journals and had a passion for learning. Joe moved to Borger, Texas in 1996.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Christine Matzek and sister, Lynn Peters.
He is survived by his sister, Kristi Reneau of Amarillo, nephew, Cory and wife, Leslie (Rylan and Ellison) Reneau, and a son, Jeff and wife, Laura (Josh and Jason) Wood.
Graveside services with military honors will be Tuesday morning, September 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.
Memorials in memory of Joe may be given to St. Jude's. Memorials will be accepted at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942. Friends can sign the online guest book and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
