Joe L. May, Sr. passed away peacefully in his home surrounded in LOVE by his family on 11/25/2021. Joe had vascular dementia from strokes in 2016 and retired from Joe May's, Inc. in 2018.
Born in Lebanon on 10/10/54, he was the son of the late James E. May, Jr. & Marjorie May. Joe was the owner/operator of Joe May's Towing and Repair in Lickdale since 1980. He was a member of Buglers Across America and sounded taps for Wreaths Across America and for many military funerals. Joe was also a member of the Lickdale American Legion Post 910, The Lebanon County Concert Band, Northern Lebanon Alumni Band, and The Lebanon Area Corvette Club. He was awarded the American Tow-man of the Year award for his life-saving action for a victim of an accident plus many other awards not listed. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, and camping. He especially enjoyed driving his Corvette and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children Tamara Bomgardner, Melodie Favinger & Joe L. May, Jr.; brothers James E. May, Carey D. May, Bruce C. May; sister Wendy B. Gerberich; and grandchildren Allen, Alexis, Lilliava, Gracie, Annalise, Nicholas, and Rachel.
An informal Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Lebanon Area Evangelical Free Church, 600 Shepherd St., Jonestown. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18960.
