Duncan: Joseph "Joe" Monroe Mitchell, 94, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022 in Duncan.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Lakeside Baptist Church, with Rev. Lawrence Gresham and Rev. Shawn Bitner officiating. Burial will be in the Old Velma Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.
Visitation will be at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home on Monday, 5:00-8:30 PM, Tuesday, 8:30 AM-8:30 PM, and Wednesday, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
Joe was born Wednesday, October 26, 1927 in Bronwood, GA, to Joseph Sr.and Sara Frances (Dismuke) Mitchell. He moved to his forever home in Duncan 62 years ago. Prior to living in Duncan, he lived in Velma, Florida, and Georgia. Joe married the love of his life, Marie Green, March 12, 1954 in Duncan. He and Marie celebrated more than 68 wonderful years of marriage at the time of his passing. Joe proudly served in the United States Army under the 101 Field Artillery. He was a longtime and active member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Joe was also a member of the Disabled Veterans of America. He enjoyed gardening and was very good at carpentry. Joe loved his family more than anything else and he cherished any time he got to spend with them. He will be dearly missed by many.
In addition to his loving wife, Joe leaves behind his 2 sons, Mike Mitchell and wife Teresa, and Forrest Mitchell and wife Sharon; 3 grandchildren, Nicole Bowers and husband Kevin, Zac Mitchell and wife Christina, and Patrick Mitchell and Stacy; 9 great-grandchildren, Josh Bowers, Hunter Bowers, Jose Mitchell, Grayson Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Allie Mitchell, Kaisie Gomez, Kaleigh Bowers, and Kyleigh Bowers; great-great-grandson, Easton Gomez; brother, John Wesley Mitchell of Tampa, FL; sister, Frances Vermillion and husband John of Tampa, FL; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Robert Mitchell and Frank Mitchell, and sister, Nadine Southerland.
Pallbearers will be: The men from Joe's Sunday School Class, Jim Bradley, Josh Bowers, Zac Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell, and Kevin Bowers.
Honorary Pallbearer will be: Jo Auld and Tammy Ward.
