My deepest, deepest sympathies to David Nevarez and the entire Nevarez family, I was so shocked to hear about Joey. He & I had a very important & joyful, casually-happened upon conversation, in my parents' home, over 15 years ago ... about THE RIO BRAVO... what The Rio Grande was formerly named. And the importance of history. He was so wise and such a joy and good spirit, as are all the brothers who I know. I thought about THE BRAVE RIVER when I heard about Joey, and applied it to immediately to him. I then heard about Bobby, a week later, and I was shocked, as our entire student body was. I thanked my Lord that I was able to see him, one last time, though many years ago... 2010 or 2011, when I was in town, there was a group of teachers from El Paso High meeting for dinner ... I happened to be in town and saw him there, jovial and kind as ever...we took photos and hugged tightly. With the Nevarez brothers, you always feel you are back in high school and that no time has lapsed. The entire community is weeping over each of the dear brothers. They were each full of kindness & generosity of spirit & authentic love of God, to whom they have now returned, in near-unison... as if they escorted the other home. We believe in the resurrection. And thus, we know they are safe with the Lord. May our Lord rest their souls in the greatest of peace & the LIGHT OF CHRIST. And may God gird you all with supernatural strength at this time. Our hearts are truly with you.

Sincerely & with love,
Marian Haddad (Gus's sister)
Our entire family sends their deepest, most heartfelt condolences.

I'm deeply saddened by the news of Joey's passing. I vividly remember some late friday nights when Joey would drive us kids downtown to watch Bruce Lee movies at the Plaza or State. He always had such a great personality and great smile. Pray for me Joey as I know you are surely in the presents of our lord and I hope to see you again.

Bobby,

May our precious heavenly father comfort you during this difficult time of the loss of your dear brother and best friend.

I'm the youngest of the Salazar clan from Sunset Heights and knew you and Joey from a distance. You two always seemed like the life of the party. Sandra Alvarado informed me of Joey. As you miss your brother remember, you won't have to go far to find him, he's in your heart.
