Joe "Joe Bud" Edwin Phillips, 82, of Ocoonita, VA, entered into heaven on November 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born to the late, Ciecro and Maude Phillips, Joe Bud lived a life marked by hard work, devotion, and quiet strength. A proud Vietnam Veteran, a dedicated coal miner for the UMWA for Westmoreland and Jim Walters Resources, and spent many years as a farmer on his beautiful land in Ocoonita. He carried a resilience and work ethic that shaped every part of his life.
Joe Bud is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Martha Phillips, who was his constant companion and greatest joy. He is proceeded in death by his daughter, Jody Phillips. Brothers: Bill and Roland Phillips, and Sister: Ruby Gosser. Also, his cherished grandchildren, Apri Osborne and Wesley Osborne.
Those left to cherish his life are: his sister, Jackie Yates. His beloved children- Shannon (Dean) Haun, Kenny Phillips, and Timothy Phillips. His grandchildren- TJ Lawson, Meaghann (John) Malone, Harley (Jacob) Zumbrum, Kaylee (Kemp) Yeary, Mikky (Erica) Haun, Deanna Haun, and Brittney Haun, and his great-grandchildren-Layton, Lyndon, Nora, Raylan, Kinley, Rhett, Elam, Haidean, Kaia, and Maureen. He also held a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews. Special friends: Jim Whitt, Larry Jessee, Bill Miller, Marion Price, and all of his Huddle House bunch.
Joe Bud spent his days doing what he loved most-sharing life with Martha, tending to his garden, caring for his mules, reading his favorite books, sitting on his porch, and searching for his "special treasures". His gentle spirit, humor, and dedication to his family will be forever remembered.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved most.
