Joe Hill Rainey was born in Nashville, TN on October 13, 1948 to Tolbert and Aline
Rainey and passed onto his eternal reward on April 12 th, 2025.
The bulk of Joe's childhood was spent in Grandfield, OK where he graduated from
Grandfield High School as a talented multi-sport athlete. Joe was voted "Most Athletic"
by his senior class and was captain of the football team. His greatest high school
accomplishment, however, was meeting the love of his life, Dana. The two wed on July
5 th, 1968, and were inseparable for 56 years.
Joe enjoyed a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, earning many awards,
some of which afforded he and Dana kid-less vacations where he was recognized for
his outstanding sales. Although Joe and Dana enjoyed time together as a couple, their
greatest joys in life were their kids and grandkids. The couple happily welcomed
daughters Jami Robyn, Joy Lee, and Jaryn Jo into their family and ultimately settled in
Lawton, where they lived until Joe's medical retirement.
Joe was an active dad and well-known in the community as a stellar little league coach.
Joe led the Crosby Park Longhorns and Pioneer Park Panthers to many tournament
and city championships. Joe taught his players the value of mastering fundamentals
and working hard, skills that followed them into adulthood. Upon his passing, many of
Joe's players spoke to the impact he had on them.
Joe's faith was evident to all. He could often be heard talking about his love for the Lord
and his many blessings. In his prime, Joe was actively involved at Northwest Church of
Christ where he served as a deacon, leading ministries such as the Joy Bus.
Joe loved just about every sport and, until he could no longer do so, he could often be
found playing racquetball, running, or playing golf. Joe shared his love of sports with his
daughters. He and Jami could often be found at football games for the Cameron Aggies
or his beloved Sooners. Joe was Joy's biggest track cheerleader and could be seen in
the stands timing her splits, never showing embarrassment as she waved to him every
lap. Joe shared his knack for golfing with Jaryn and was elated over her high school and
college championships.
Joe loved his sons-in-law as his own, but nothing surpassed his love for his
grandchildren. Joe took great pride over Jacob's soccer achievements and success as
a paramedic. He delighted in Luke's academic prowess and two state soccer
championships. Joe loved following Kate's pitching career and became a diehard
softball fan as a result. Joe constantly shared YouTube videos of Edan's sports with
anyone who was willing to watch (and even those who weren't) but prioritized making
sure Edan knew he was most proud of his character off the field. Elias could make Joe
laugh like nobody else. In addition to his humor, Joe adored Elias's imagination and
technological acumen.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, beloved (step)father Floyd Lawson
and sister-in-law Emma Rainey. Joe is survived by his loving bride, Dana; his three
daughters Jami Odle (Chris), Joy Fugett (Lawrence), and Jaryn Rainey; his
grandchildren Jacob Odle, Luke Odle, Edan Fugett, Kate Odle, and Elias Fugett; his
brothers Nick Rainey (Laura), David Rainey, and John Rainey; sister-in-law Cindy
Rainey; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

My memories of our senior year, 1966 at GHS are of the good times. Joe and Dana were the best. They both made me feel that I belonged. I've never met a nicer couple in the years since.
Peace be with you, Dana. Prayers for Joe and Dana and family.
