Born June 3, 1951. Died December 30, 2025. Graduate of South Georgia College.
A beloved husband, father, friend, and a joyful presence to all who knew him. A true girl dad through and through, he took immense pride in his daughters and made life fun wherever he went. Laughter followed him, and if you were near him for more than a few minutes, chances were you were smiling. He never met a stranger. Friends quickly became family, and he was lovingly known as "Dad" or "Pops" not only to his own children, but to their friends and even their friends' children. His heart was big, welcoming, and generous - there was always room for one more at his table or in his life. For 30 years, he served as a professional Santa Claus, spreading magic, kindness, and joy to children young and old. Being Santa wasn't just something he did-it was who he was. He delighted in bringing smiles, hope, and wonder to others, especially children. As a lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, he cheered faithfully and passionately.
A devoted Christian, his faith guided his life. He had a special love for children's ministry and believed deeply in nurturing young hearts with love, faith, and encouragement. His life was a reflection of service, joy, and quiet faithfulness. Above all, he will be remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and the way he made people feel seen and loved. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the joy he brought into the world.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him. Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jan B. Waller; his older brother, Billy, and his wife, Alice Waller; his 4 girls, Kristie Leigh Burger, and her son, Tristan; Tabitha & Lee Murphy, and their children, Thailan, Dilan, Zoelei, Keziah; Aliceson Whelchel, and her son, Perrin; Kat Waller & Sean Paul, and their son, Bowie. In heaven, he joins his son-in-law, Mikey Burger (2021), and granddaughter, Payton Ford (2023).
A Memorial Service will be on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Take Heart Church. All attending are invited to wear red and black in honor of Joe's team, the UGA Bulldogs.
