Joe Neil Winters
July 13, 1933 - December 22, 2024
Joe Neil Winters, born on July 13, 1933, in Marshall, Oklahoma, to Edward and Mildred (Thacker) Winters, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, at the age of 91. One of nine siblings, Joe lived a life full of adventure, love, and devotion to family and community.
A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and veteran, Joe is survived by his brother Donny Winters; his wife, Karleen; his children, Neila Chaney and Steven Winters; his son-in-law, James Chaney; and two grandchildren, Greg and Steven Chaney.
Growing up in Marshall, one of the wildest oil boom towns of its era, Joe naturally gravitated toward the energy industry, where he dedicated 50 years of his life. A true outdoorsman, Joe found joy in scouting, serving as a Scoutmaster, and embarking on adventures that culminated in a cherished experience at Philmont Scout Ranch.
Joe's passions included gardening, fishing, camping, hiking, and working outdoors year-round. As an expert fisherman, he had an uncanny ability to find Crappie, even in bad weather. His talent for fixing and improving things was legendary-whether it was appliances, garage doors, roofs, or cars, Joe could repair or enhance anything.
A fierce competitor, Joe rarely lost, excelling in billiards, shuffleboard, ping pong, card games, board games, and especially horseshoes. His enthusiasm extended to square dancing, where he was known for never missing a do-si-do.
Joe's legacy is one of adventure, laughter, generosity, wisdom, energy, and boundless love. His spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
