Joel Day Obituary

Published by Legacy from Sep. 24 to Sep. 25, 2025.
Wm. "Joel" Day, 71

October 27, 1953 – September 23, 2025

Wm. "Joel" Day, 71, of Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away on September 23, 2025. Born on October 27, 1953, Joel devoted his life to family, community, and the craft of land surveying in Scott County.

Joel was a loving grandfather often attending and supporting all of his grandchildren's events and milestones. Beyond family life Joel had a passion for gardening, golfing and the occasional whiskey celebrating amongst friends.

A licensed Professional Land Surveyor and elected official within Scott County Joel's steady hand and careful measurements are well sewn into the fabric of the county's tremendous growth. Over decades, his firm Meridian Associates, LLC was vital in the planning and development of all areas of Central Kentucky they served. All of Joel's work will remain part of the official public record through the Georgetown–Scott County Planning Commission's archives, a lasting testament to a career spent ensuring accuracy, fairness, and public trust.

Joel was preceded in death by his Mother Christine Bullock of Cumberland and is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Brenda Day; his children, Jeremy Day (Emily) and Jessica Day Bush (Joey); and his grandchildren Emily Day (mother Amy Day), Riley Bush, Brooklyn Marks, Blake Hernandez-Paynter, Brayden Marks, and Adrian Hernandez-Paynter. He is also survived by siblings Judy Lusk (Dale), Anita Miller (Chris), and Mark "Bo" Day as well as extended family including Joyce Boring (Harold) and Alberta Bullock.

Beyond his professional contributions, Joel was a proud and active Mason, serving with distinction in both the Georgetown and past master Fields lodge 832 where he proudly served within both the York and Scottish rites. His dedication to fellowship, mentorship, and service through Masonry reflected the same principles that guided his surveying career and family life.

Family and friends will remember Joel as a gentle problem-solver, a patient teacher, and a man who found deep purpose in work most people never see but everyone depends on.

A graveside celebration of life will be held at Charlie Maggard Cemetery in Blair, Ky, September 27th at 3pm with eulogy to be delivered by Dale Lusk followed by Masonic rites from Fields Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Joel through donations to Masonic Homes of Kentucky or on behalf of his grandson Brayden with the Dravet Syndrome foundation.
