Joel "Joey" McKnight

Joel “Joey” McKnight, 64, of Carrollton, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 in Pampa.

Services will be scheduled at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Joey was born on September 30, 1961 in Kingsville to his parents, David McKnight and Sandy McKnight. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1980. Soon after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the 25th Infantry Division, stationed in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1983. Upon being discharged, he enrolled and earned his associate’s degree in computer science from TSTI in Amarillo. After graduation, he accepted a job with Texas Instruments in Dallas. He would work there from 1985 until 1991.

On November 8, 1991, he married his high school sweetheart, Kim Hopkins, in Amarillo. In the early part of 1992, Joey took a job with American Airlines which moved his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they would raise their children. In 1994 he started his career with The Williams Company. Joey served as Project Manager for the company’s state-of-the-art, 21,000 square foot trading floor. In 2003, Joey and his family moved to Houston to work for Houston Cinergy for 3 years. In 2007, he was named CIO and Director of Energy Marketing and Trading at BNP Paribas and in 2009 was moved to COO and Managing Director until 2012. From 2012 to 2018 he was the CIO of Calpine until he semi-retired.

Joey maintained a strong passion for work and founded ETRM Consulting Co. in 2019. His wife, Kim, aspired to become Vice President of the company but ultimately settled, somewhat reluctantly, into the role of company secretary.

Joey was a member of the Lampasas Methodist Church. Joey had the heart of a servant and volunteered for many church programs such as CAPS, VBS, Youth on Mission and several church committees. He was a true man of God and loved going door-to-door sharing the Gospel.

Joey was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed hunting with his best friend Steve and his Harley. Anyone that knew him knows he spent a lot of time watching Fox News and listening to music.

Joey was a provider for his family, always putting the needs of others before himself. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He not only loved people, but all animals, including his goldens, Murphy and Mabel.

Joey was a big supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. His faith was admirable to everyone who knew him. He was a prayer warrior and a good friend. He had a favorite saying, “Vaya con Dios” meaning Go with God and was quick to notice God sightings. Joey will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, David McKnight and younger brother, Davy McKnight.

Survivors include his wife, Kim of the home; daughter, Kassidy Wagner and husband Chris of Plano; two sons, Zachary McKnight and wife Sarah of Spring and Daniel McKnight of Kingsville; mother, Sandy Bosworth of Lampasas.

He loved being PamPaw to his grandchildren, Aisley McKnight, Dylan Grace McKnight, Parker McKnight, Samuel Wagner, Kirby Rose Wagner, Daniel Slade McKnight, and expecting Annie Jo Wagner in the Spring; two brothers, Dean McKnight and wife Sheri of Austin and Kevin McKnight and wife Stephanie of Amarillo; two sisters-in-law, Andrea Hopkins Baker of Amarillo and Carmen Hopkins of Lubbock; three best friends, Carlos Morales, Jack Rothrock, and Steve McKee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
