Joel Montoya, age 43, a resident of Los Luceros, NM, passed away on January 12, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather Randy Maestas whom he considered as his biological father; maternal grandparents Pastor Elias Valdez and Angelina Montoya; paternal grandparents Ruben and Rose Montoya; step grandmother Carol Maestas; uncles Patrick Martinez Jr, David Martinez, Gilbert Valdez, Philip Montoya, and Joseph Montoya; aunts Margaret Watson, Alice Garcia, and Beverlie Maestas; Cousins: Charlie Jaramillo, Andrea Martinez, Destiny Herrera, and Eli Martinez.
Joel is survived by his daughters Zamara Montoya and Nadia Montoya; mother Kathleen Maestas (Jerome); father Dale Montoya; brother Randy Maestas; uncles Kenneth Valdez (Veronica), Larry Maestas, Benny Montoya (Susie), Urias Valdez; Aunts: Marlene Jaramillo (Ramos), Marie Serna, Debbie Maes (Kenneth), Antoinette Garcia-Montoya (Kierste), Carmen Valdez; close cousin Levi Valdez (Caroline); cousins: Clyde Vigil (Rica), Michael Herrera, Angeline Herrera (Steve), Andrea Valdez (Ray), Kasey Anne Valdez, Isaiah Martinez (Rebecca), Anthony Valdez, Marlene Valdez, Miquela Valdez, Gilbert Valdez, Sidney Jaramillo (Teresa), Veronica Garces (Judas), Ray Arrietta, Jordan Valdez (Mario), Tina Maes, Christan Dimas (Andrew), Brittany Maestas, Nicole Maestas, Julia Maestas, Brandon Maestas (Marissa), Ronnie Garcia (Christina), Adrian Barela (Apryl), Ivan Barela (Alisha), Rochelle Martinez, Jason Martinez, Yvette Maestas, Renee Montoya, Adrian Montoya, Amanda Montoya; many other cousins, relatives and friends.
A Rosary will take place on Thursday January 25, 2024 at 10:30 am at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at the Alcalde Catholic Cemetery.
