Joel Randal Sherman, Sr., 82, of Newberry, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home.
Born on October 9, 1941, in Hereford, TX, he was a son of the late Otto Emmett and Loesa Odella Flowers Sherman. Mr. Sherman was retired after 25 1/2 years as a Master Chief with the US Navy. He was also a Vietnam veteran. Following his military retirement he worked for Lockheed Martin. His family was the most important aspect of his life. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, Alice “Berta” Green Sherman; a son, Joel Randal (Liz) Sherman of Prosperity; a daughter, Paige Sherman Cassidy of Mt. Sterling, KY; grandchildren, Steven Sherman, Darian Sherman, Delaina Sherman, Mary Comett and Sean Cassiday, Jr. and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Sherman.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
