Joey Cecil Oris, age 87 of Gate City, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 25, 2023. Joey was born on January 25, 1936, in Welch, WV to Joseph and Dora Oris. On July 21, 1989, Joey married Verdie Arnold and after 33 years of a beautiful life together, she preceded him in death on March 7, 2023.
Joey was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Verdie Oris; and one son, Junior Oris. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jackie Oris, Lee Oris, Melvin Otte, and Sonny Otte; daughters, Melissa Otte, and Beth Otte; grandchildren, Madlyn, Nadlyn, Zach, Tyler, Mackenzie, Kimberly, Dalton, Samantha, Lexi, Lori, Timmy, Kaylee, Justina, and John; brother, James Oris; sister, Elizabeth Perry; many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members; and his neighbor and friend, Don Neff.
Joey will be laid to rest at Holston View Cemetery with Pastor Danny Sykes and Pete Barbour officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Carter-Trent / Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA is serving the Oris family.
