1946 ~ 2026

Johann Ciotti, 79, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Utica, NY, on October 8, 1946, daughter of the late Lawrence and Ann Fanelli Garramone. Johann graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School with the Class of 1965. On June 25, 1966, she married Louis A. Ciotti, Sr., in Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica. He passed away in 2002. She retired from Herb Philipson's Army and Navy Stores, in Rome, after 39 years, where she started as a cashier and moved into the accounting department.

Johann was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, the Catholic Daughters of America Rome Chapter, Charter member and past financial secretary Court Mother Cabrini and the Professional Businesswomen of Rome.

She was an avid bocce player for over 40 years, playing in two leagues and various tournaments, alongside her teammate, Patricia Johnson.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary L. (Patrick) Kernan and Valarie A. (Benjamin, Sr.) Thurmond; two sons, Louis A. Ciotti, Jr. and John M. (Jennifer Roberts) Ciotti, Sr.; seven grandchildren, Stephen and Emily Kernan, Jacob, John, Jr. (Michelle Manion) Ciotti and Matthew (Madison Wilson) Ciotti, Dante Ciotti, Bailey, Raegan and Benjamin Thurmond, Jr.,; two great-grandchildren, Millie and Lilah; four sisters, Rosalind Bramhall, Annamarie Taylor and Theresa Claeys and Lorraine (Tom) Floyd; in-laws, Anthony Ciotti, Karen Ciotti, Donna Ciotti and Ruth Fraccola; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Ann; her husband, Louis, Sr.; brother, Lawrence Garamone, III; in-laws, Clayton Bramhall, Donnie Taylor, Michael Claeys, Clara and Tony Montalbano, Vincent and Grace Ciotti, Angelo and Palma Ciotti, Felix Ciotti, Marion and Coleman Comito, Olympia and Sal Carletta, Alex Nashton, William and Louise Snyder, Gabriel Ciotti, Sr., Pasquale Ciotti and Susan Ciotti.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11 a.m., from St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome. Relatives and friends may call, at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
