Johanna “Jo” Anna Oliver, age 83 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 18, 2023, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born April 10, 1940, in the Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Corstian Hendrik van der Vossen and Petronella Catharina Wilhelmina (van den Berg) van der Vossen. A daughter, Susan Elizabeth Oliver Ervin and a brother, John van der Vossen also preceded her in death.
In every phase of her life, “Jo” found something to give to her husband, children, grandchildren, her ever growing extended family, the center of her and her husband’s life, the tiny WV mountain church, the quilting club, Habitat For Humanity and its child “The Hardy Helpers,” the Lion’s Club, and the American Legion. Her experience managing the K of C credit union, in College Park, MD made her the primary choice in retirement, as treasurer for this myriad of organizations.
Surviving is her husband of 60 years, James Robert Oliver; her children, Deborah Ann (husband Greg) Oliver-Davis, Thomas Andrew (wife Kim) Oliver, Karyn Lynn (husband Claude) Oliver Draillard; a son-in-law, Paul Ervin; brothers Harry (wife Pat) van der Vossen, Corstian (wife Susan) van der Vossen and William van der Vossen; sisters, Ann (husband Frank) Fealy, Elly (husband Johnny)Young, Willy Policchio and Betty (husband Larry) Pasco; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Epiphany of Lord Catholic Church with Father Dan Pisano officiant. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kessel, WV. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Monday at Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street.
