John Albertson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Damiano Funeral Home on Mar. 6, 2026.
John Bernard Albertson, known affectionately as Jack to his friends and family, and Poppy to his grandchildren, embarked on his final journey to meet his Creator on March 5th, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on November 15th, 1932, in the bustling city of Newark, New Jersey, Jack's zest for life and infectious smile left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. He departed peacefully at his home in Eatontown, due to congestive heart failure, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the occasional hole-in-one.
Jack's life was a testament to devotion, not only to his family but also to his country. In the early 1950s, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force alongside his lifetime friend Ralph 'Foo' Marchetti. After his service, Jack seamlessly transitioned into civilian life, becoming one of the top salesmen in NJ's food distribution industry. With his charismatic approach to sales Jack could sell ice to Eskimos.
Despite his professional achievements, Jack's heart belonged to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yolanda 'TD' Albertson, and his son, Clifford Albertson. His legacy continues through his daughter, Lucretia 'Krissy' Albertson Meyer; granddaughter, Lucrezia 'Zia' Riley Albertson; son-in-law, Alexander Riley; granddaughter, Alexander 'Lexi' Meyer; fiancé, Vincent Torres ll; and his great-grandchildren, Kai Carter and Jackson Torres. Each family member was the recipient of his boundless love and the target of his playful teasing.
A devout Catholic, Jack lived his faith with the same fervor that he approached every aspect of his life. His commitment to attending mass was only rivaled by his dedication to refining his golf swing and bluffing his way to victory in poker games with his buddies, reading a good book and weekly luncheons with Red Bank Catholic crew of friends.
Jack's wish for peace and happiness was legendary, a quality that he believed was as essential to life as breathing. He was a kind, easy-going man who would help anyone that needed it. His family and friends often say what a great conversationalist he was and always had a story to tell. In keeping with his uplifting spirit, Jack would want us to remember that while life may be fleeting, a good story, love and kindness can echo through the ages.
As we bid farewell to Jack, we celebrate a man whose laughter and smile was his hymn and whose good nature was his sermon. He was a beacon of joy and a pillar of strength to all who knew him. Jack Albertson's story may have reached its final chapter here on earth, but his spirit continues to dance in the hearts of those he touched. We imagine him now, cracking jokes with the angels and negotiating a better tee time. Rest in peace, dear Jack, until we meet again.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch, NJ 07740, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. On Wednesday, March 11, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 800 Ocean Ave N, Long Branch, NJ 07740. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport.

Our family has fond memories of our days at Edgewater Beach Club with Jack and the greater Albertson family. Our summers included many parties, meals and laughs. We especially remember my Dad, Henry Stravic, and Jack playing cards and telling jokes. Aa a new golfer, my dad would take me to play at the old Fort Monmouth course where we would often be joined by Jack. There was always a lot of teasing and cheating! We should all learn to enjoy life´s treasures more. Peace,
Gina Stravic and family

My father Ralph, Jack & Tom were lifelong friends & all joined the Air Force together. Their friendship spanned over 80 years. I'm sure they're all together again in Heaven.

My mom was an RBC Class of 1950 alumni along with Jack. She loved their monthly luncheons and would talk about Jack and Ralph reliving funny and endearing moments in their long friendship. Our condolences to your family.
