I met John when I was stationed at Parris Island in the 1980s, after seeing him in a newscast. He had a treasure trove of family history dating back to The Doomsday Message from 1st century England. He also answered the question of who was the James Algar we saw in the Disney cartoons. My condolences to his family on their loss.

I first met John, my new roommate, when I arrived at Pomona College in the fall of 1962. We were roommates again during our Junior year, and he was a groomsman when Linda and I were married the summer following graduation. He was a kind and wise friend. The years then took us in different directions, but Linda and I so enjoyed being able to reconnect with John a few years ago as he graciously showed us around his hometown of Charleston. We send our condolences to Joan and their family, and treasure our memories of this quiet friend.

Dear Joan and family,

Please accept my condolences for John's passing. He was everything stated in the obituary, which was very thoughtful, and a lot more. It was my great pleasure to know and work with John for many years. He was a fine lawyer and person. He is gone too soon.

My best wishes and warmest condolences to all of you.
