John Allen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southview Mortuary, Inc. - Tifton on Jan. 12, 2026.
John Eldridge Allen, age 78, of Sparks, Ga., passed away peacefully at home. He was born on August 21, 1947, in Winter Haven, Florida. John was preceded in death by his parents, Hensley and Maureen Allen, and by his siblings Janie Williams and Auvie Roller. John is survived by his beloved spouse, Melissa Allen; his children Stephanie Anne Allen, Kim Allen, Johnny Allen, Kim White, Vanessa Retherford, Jessica Allen, Ashley Sullivan, and Stephany Britt (Matthew); his grandchildren Corey Allen, Josh Allen, Austin Allen, Serena Hull, Chris Smith, William Retherford, Ryan Retherford, Lexi Retherford, Aiden Allen, Aubrie Bozich, and Kora Beasley; numerous great grandchildren; and his brother Gary Allen. John was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving his country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1971 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. During his service, he first worked as a Parachute Rigger and later as a Machine Door Gunner, a role that reflected both his bravery and dedication. Following his military service, John became a successful entrepreneur, founding Mid Florida Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, which he owned and operated for 39 years. His strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of countless customers and colleagues throughout the community. Outside of his business, John enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his wife, Melissa, and close friends. He also had a deep love for deep sea fishing. Above all else, John cherished time with his family and friends. He was known for his generous heart and unwavering kindness-always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. John's legacy of service, hard work, and selflessness will live on through all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Services will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd located at 221 S. 4th Street Lake Wales, FL 33853 on January 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

Please keep the family lifted up in prayer at this time.
