John Amos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel - Rainsville on Mar. 31, 2026.
John Randall "Randy" Amos

Albertville, Alabama

John Randall "Randy" Amos passed away peacefully at his home on March 30, 2026. Randy was born in Albertville on August 3, 1948, to the late H.L. "Tip" Amos and Sue Anderson Amos. Although he spent most of his life in Albertville, Randy was raised in Opelika, Alabama, where he formed many lifelong friendships.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha Dye Amos, whom he adored; his two sons, John (Jennifer) Amos and Griffin (Erika) Amos; his brother, Harry Amos; and his cherished grandchildren, Josiee, Addie, Rhett, and Finn. He also leaves behind his faithful four-legged companion, Rosie, along with a host of dear friends whom he loved fiercely.

Randy lived his life with a deep and abiding sense of service. Service to his Lord, his family and friends, and his country and community. He was a longtime member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served through ministries of visitation, music, and fellowship.

After attending Snead State Community College and Auburn University, Randy served in the United States Air Force before continuing a proud family tradition of serving others by entering law enforcement. Over a career spanning more than forty years, Randy served with dedication and integrity in the Lee and Marshall County Sheriff's Departments, as well as the Boaz and Albertville Police Departments. He also served his community as a member of the Albertville City Council, further reflecting his commitment to public service.

Throughout his distinguished career, Randy held many roles, including Chief Deputy and Chief. However, one of the most meaningful and impactful seasons of his service came when he was known across Marshall County as "Captain Randy." During this time, he became one of the first five D.A.R.E. officers in the State of Alabama. He found great joy in mentoring young people, teaching drug abuse resistance classes to fifth-grade students throughout the county.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Albertville. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Bro. Brent Roe and David McMillen will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Albertville and Boaz Police Departments, the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, and deacons from Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 2nd Chance Animal Shelter, or Shepherd's Cove Hospice.
