Funeral services for John Leonard Anders, Sr., 84, of Rosenberg have been scheduled for 10am on Wednesday August 20th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond with Fr. Joe Templado, Fr. Greg Mirto, Fr. Eric Pitre and Monsignor Arnold Anders co-officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 19th, from 4:00-8:00pm at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The vigil service will be presided by Deacon Don Ries at 7:00 pm and will be followed by a rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus Council #2801. Following the funeral Mass in Richmond and transport to St. Michael's Catholic Church in Weimar, a brief prayer service will be held at 3:00pm, with visitation beginning at 2:30pm. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. John was born in Dubina, Texas to Frank J. and Anne M. Anders on July 6, 1930. He married Adelle Pesl on June 21, 1952 in Weimar and recently observed 62 years of marriage. He served in the Army at Fort Hood during the Korean Conflict in addition to service in the Texas National Guard and Air Force Reserve. After 43 years with the US Postal Service in Bellaire, John retired in 1999 to enjoy the activities of his family and grandchildren. He always enjoyed their sporting events, band concerts, dance recitals, scouting activities, handmade artwork and many stories about their happenings. He was a devout Catholic and valued a religious education by sending his children to Holy Ghost Catholic School in Bellaire and Holy Rosary Catholic School in Rosenberg as well as Marian High School, St. Agnes, and Strake Jesuit in Houston. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2801 and the 4th Degree Msgr. Tydlacka Assembly #1114, the Czech Heritage Society of Fort Bend, the National Alliance of Czech Catholics, and the American Legion Post #271. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. John passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Mr. Anders is survived by his wife of 62 years, Adelle Pesl Anders. He is also survived by his children, Monica Lopez and husband Larry, John Anders Jr. and wife Carol, Mary Ondrey, Kathleen Malone, Cecilia Anders, Patricia Anders, Theresa Wappel and husband Joe, Robert Anders and wife Deborah, Benedict Anders, Stephen Anders, Timothy Anders and wife Dawn, Emily Kucherka and husband James, Philip Anders and wife Rox Ann, and Angela Anders. He will also be missed by his extended family of grandchildren – William, Amy, Jason, Bridget, James, Andrea, Sarah, Christina, John Paul, Henry, Justus, Jacob, Ashley, Moriah, Lillie, Nicole, Nathan, Vincent, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Catherine, Whitney, Austin, and Kendell and numerous great grandchildren. His brother, Monsignor Arnold Anders of Corpus Christi, also survives him. His parents, Frank and Anne Anders, brothers Arthur and Frank, and sisters Margaret Hartensteiner and Leona Garza preceded him in death. Pallbearers for the services will be his six sons – John Jr., Robert, Benedict, Stephen, Timothy, and Philip. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Anders' memory to the Pregnancy Resource Medical Center of Fort Bend County or the American Heart Association.
