John Arthurs Obituary

John W. "Jack" Arthurs, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025. He was born on November 1, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, the beloved son of the late Thomas and Agnes Arthurs, and devoted husband of the late Margaret Theisen Arthurs.

Jack is survived by his three sons, John T. Arthurs, Mark J. Arthurs (Denise), and William J. "Billy" Arthurs; and was preceded in death by his daughter Cindy Hannah (Scott). He leaves behind cherished grandchildren Ella, Lindsay, Anne, Megan, and Will. Jack was the loving brother of Jean Collins, and was preceded in death by siblings Lois Cole, Joseph Arthurs, and Tom Arthurs.

A proud graduate of St. Gregory High School, Jack attended the University of Detroit before serving two years in the U.S. Army. His professional career began at Link Welder as a machine tool designer, and later he became a partner at Bra-Con Industries, as well as other industrial firms in Metro Detroit. Known for his strong engineering mind and entrepreneurial drive, Jack built a successful career that evolved into industrial real estate investment, where he grew and managed a thriving portfolio of properties.

Jack met the love of his life, Margaret, through an adult church youth group. Their shared love for adventure took them skiing with the Chrysler Ski Club, and in 1963 they were married at St. Brigid Church in Detroit. Their honeymoon in Aspen, Colorado, marked the beginning of a lifetime of outdoor adventures. Together, they raised four children and later five grandchildren with the same passion for the outdoors - skiing, fishing, hunting, and golfing - with countless memories at Boyne Mountain, Trout Lake Lodge, and the Grayling Game Club.

In later years, Jack and Margaret enjoyed time as "snowbirds," splitting their days between Orchard Lake Country Club and sunny Gulf Shores, Alabama - though Boyne Mountain always held their hearts.

Jack's adventurous spirit took him around the world, traveling with Margaret throughout the British Isles, Germany, Austria, and Italy. He loved skiing the great mountains of the West, fishing deep into Canada and Alaska, and celebrating every hunting season with friends at the Detroit Gun Club and Paul Bunyan Club. His curiosity and adventurous mind also led him to be an avid reader who rarely missed a day without his Detroit newspapers. He loved keeping up with current events and never started the morning without reading the day's news or a book.

Beyond his accomplishments, Jack was known as a kind, social, and spirited gentleman who never passed up the chance to share a Dewar's on the rocks and good conversation among friends. His faith was the quiet anchor of his life - a lifelong Catholic, Jack rarely missed Sunday Mass, and his devotion to prayer and family were ever-present.

Jack's life was a remarkable blend of hard work, adventure, and heart - a legacy that lives on through his children and grandchildren.

Family will receive friends, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, 4:00 – 7:00 PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak, Michigan 48073. Funeral Mass Wednesday, November 19, 2025, 10:00 AM at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Road, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48304. Visiting begins at church at 9:30 AM.
