John Ash Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglass Funeral Home - Lexington on Jan. 16, 2026.
John Ash, longtime resident of Hollis, New Hampshire, and formerly of Lexington, Massachusetts, passed away on January 16th, surrounded by loving family. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth (Betty)Ash former husband to Judi Earnshaw loving father to Jay Ash and his wife Nichole of Kingston, NH; Julie Gillis and husband Chris of Sarasota, FL; Jodie Herlihy and husband Sean of Chelmsford, MA; and Jason Ash of Mexico. He was also a proud stepfather to Lisa Cherin and husband Bill of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Patrice Dougan and husband Shawn of Arlington, MA.

John was the cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren whom he adored and supported wholeheartedly.

John had a deep love for the Maine seacoast, where he spent many happy hours and formed lasting friendships, especially with his many friends at Beach Dreams. A lifelong sports enthusiast and youth coach John followed many teams with passion. In more recent years, he took up the game of golf, but his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren compete in their own sporting events.

He was a familiar face on the sidelines and well known to many of the officials at those games-always present, always invested, and never shy about sharing his opinion. His enthusiasm and unmistakable presence will be remembered by all who knew him.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 21 at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington at 11am. Visitation immediately prior to the service from 9:30am to 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

In lieu of flowers, donation in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Interment at Westview Cemetery in Lexington.
