It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John R. Avina, Sr. on October 8, 2025. John was born on June 24, 1956, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Manuel and Maria Avina. During his childhood, John and his family relocated to Lindsay, California, where he spent his formative years and attended Lindsay High School. Later in life, he moved to Porterville, where he made his home with his beloved wife of 45 years, Angie Avina.
John dedicated over 50 years to his career as a truck driver, a profession he truly loved. Throughout his working life, he was employed by various companies, and he also took pride in purchasing his own diesel truck and working independently for several years. Outside of work, John enjoyed restoring old cars, fishing, attending swap meets, and camping with his family.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Angie Avina; his sisters, San Juana Lara, Rosa Herrera, and Alicia Hernandez; and his brothers, Sergio Avina and Marty Avina. He leaves behind his sons, Robert Avina and Teddy Avina, as well as his daughters, Sara Avina and Veronica Avina. John was a cherished grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved and adored deeply. He is preceded in death by his sons, Rick and Jimmy Avina.
Services to honor John's life will be held on October 22, 2025, at Myers Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A mass will take place on October 23, 2025, at 9:00 AM at St. Anne's Catholic Church, followed by burial at Lindsay Cemetery.

My deepest condolences with love and prayers. I worked for John at Jefferson School during a summer work program. He was hard on us pushed us to work hard. Had a nick name for all the workers. He called me Henry Kissinger. My curly hair and shape of my nose. Haha. I later found out he was just a big softie!

Tio, I´ll miss our several conversations we had when we always bumped into each other at Walmart. I´ll miss seeing you out at tia Carmen and tio rafa´s ranch in lindsay and most of all I´ll miss all the times you told me how proud of me you were & to take it easy!!
