John Bair Obituary

Visit the Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC - Harvey website to view the full obituary.

John Scott Bair, aged 58, passed away on 11/30/25 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on 5/9/67 to the late Captain Gary Bair USN (Ret.) and the late Norma Jean Bair. He lived in New Orleans since 1988. John is survived by his brother Paul Barton "Bart" Bair, sister-in-law Lori Cavicchi Bair, and nieces Kaylin Marie Bair and Gillian Diane Bair.

John spent the majority of his formative years in San Diego, California. In High School he was a trumpet player and member of the marching band which was recognized as one of the best in California. John loved the water, he was an avid water-skier, loved to swim and once he accomplished the Alcatraz swim. John later became passionate about hiking the California mountains. In 1997, John went on to earn his law degree from LSU which is about the same time he came to love the spirit/culture of New Orleans. He was a long term dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Algiers and a past president. In fact, one of his greatest joys of volunteerism was schlepping beer at Jazz Fest every year for the benefit of the Kiwanis. John will be remembered for his sharp wit, his love of sports, and his enthusiasm for theater. John was a great care taker of our mother, Norma Bair, as she aged, as well as our father Captain Gary Bair.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a celebration of life on February 22, 2026, 1:00 P.M. at Jacques-Imos Cafe, 8324 Oak Street, New Orleans.
