John E. Barninger, 90, of Duncannon, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at home.

He was born on July 18, 1935 in Penn Township, Perry County to the late Robert and Effie Irene (Myers) Barninger.

John was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was retired from the dietary department of the Carlisle Hospital.

John was a member of Duncannon VFW Post #255 and the Duncannon American Legion Post #340. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State football.

Surviving is his wife, Gloria L. (McPherson) Barninger, 3 daughters; Glenna Tripp of Carlisle, Diane H. Johnson and her husband, Harry of Harrisburg, Debra I. Waltz of Mechanicsburg, a sister, Rosezelma Osterling and her husband, Howard of Marysville, 6 grandchildren; Lawrence Tripp, Bernard Tripp and his wife, Christy, Matthew Cooke, Nicole Frantz and her fiancé, Steven Borakobe, Carson Waltz, Erin Cavanaugh and her husband, Matt, 4 great grandchildren; Molly Tripp, Stephanie Tripp, Connor Barrick and Liam Cavanaugh. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wayne Barninger and Lynne Allandar and 5 sisters, Sarah Bingaman, Ruth Ensor, Gladys Lukens, Betty Billow and Jane Seabold.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 North High Street, Duncannon, PA 17020. Burial will be in the Evergreen section of Union Cemetery, Duncannon, PA.

Viewing will be from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
