Maria, John, and Jack,
I am so sorry to hear of the death of this remarkable man, you all were so fortunate to know. That is a gift from God. The tribute written about him, Maria, is so beautiful with such eloquence, I find it deeply moving. How rare to read today of these outstanding character traits. And the notes about his devotion to his country wearing his nation's uniform will help instill the loyalty and care we all have as citizens of this country. I didn't know him, Maria, but knowing you I easily see these distinctive qualities in you. Hard work and determination, love and generosity and love of the outdoors and wildlife are present in you. I remember first seeing the Memorial to the Korean Conflict. There is a squad of soldiers on patrol, their carbines and radio antennae poking through their rain ponchos. There's a weary look on the last soldier, whose head is turned, mouth open in fear, he has just heard something. The inscription at the foot of the first soldier reads: Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met. 1950-Korea-1953.The Psalmist writes: The Lord is close to the broken hearted, and for those crushed in spirit, He saves. My love and condolences.
