It was an honor and a pleasure knowing Jack. While we both lived at the Delta Sig frat house, he was always positive, friendly, and a help when things were going a little pear shaped in our lives. After I was graduated from the Mines and immediately got 'snagged' by the military, I was then able to appreciate the things he did for all of us at Delta Sig. My wife and I have lived in England for the past 20 years, so we have been lacking in any meaningful contact with Jack and others whom I admire.

May Jack rest in peace and his soul comforted by the love of his friends and family.

My deep sympathy to Jim & Judy, whom I know, and to you grown children and grandchildren and cousins, whom I still have to meet. I hope my daughter, Kathy, extended in person our warm regards. I think Jack's Middle name was after Grampa Bauch, LOUIS. My brother, George Louis, was also named for Grampa Bauch. My memories of the Bauch boys, including Jerry, was Thanksgivings at Gramma Emelia Lamm Bauch's house at 613 South Dakota Ave. Aunt Marie Fredericks wouild pass the olives to the kids at dinner. She held a very large butcher knife in her other hand, and said, while presenting the olives to us, "Just one!" I don't remember anyone taking more than "just one". Enjoyed the current pictures of the younger Bauch family. Peace to you all!

Julie, Lisa and the Bauch family - my condolences and sympathy. In the times we met you could tell how proud your father was of each of you ... may your memories of him be positive and warm ....

I offer to all of your family my deepest sympathy and promise of prayer on the loss of Mr. Bauch. Although I did not know him, I have been honored to assist his son John as teacher and advisor here at the Univ. of St. Thomas. Good and gentle spirits don't come from noplace...they come from parents. May he rest in peace.

I wish to offer our condolences on the loss of my cousin Jack. Our prayers and sympathy go out to you all, and I am sorry I am unable to be there to share your grief. I grew up with Jack in Sioux Falls, and recall the many Sundays that the Bauchs would stop at our house for waffles on Sunday morning after Mass. The older folks would visit while we kids played and got into mischief. I recall on one occasion when Aunt Jo related to us that Jack put one of his brothers (don’t remember whether it was Jim or Jerry) into a garbage can and closed the lid. “It wasn’t so bad, though”, said Aunt Jo, “we wrap our garbage”. There are lots of other memories of a wonderful man who gave us lots of joy with his beautiful sense of humor, peerless demeanor, and thoughtfulness. Indeed, we mourn the passing of a gentle man.
I have included a picture of Jack that I took on 12/9/2003 on one of his visits to Sioux Falls. It is one of my favorites.

Jack, Jim and I were contemporaries during our high school years in Sioux Falls, and Jack and I were "Roomies" for a year while at the "Mines". Jack, among his other talents and accomplishments, was the prime mover in establishing the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity on the Mines campus and it is a thriving organization to this day, promoting fellowship and binding friendships among the hundreds of "Brothers" who have passed through there over the last fifty plus years, a legacy that will endure for years to come.

While I was not one of his fraternity brothers, our friendship transcended the fraternal "Brotherhood" to true personal Brotherhood. We have maintained contact and have had the oportunity to get together several time over the last several years. Our last planned rondezvous was to be in Branson, Missouri last fall. We never made it due to the condition of his health.

We never had the pleasure of meeting Jack's children but he spoke fondly of them and was a very proud father. To John, Julie, Linda Ray and Lisa and their families and to Jim, our deepest sympathies. You have lost a loving father and brother and we have lost a dear Friend. He will be missed.

To the Bauch family:
You have my heartfelt sympathy regarding Jack's passing. Although it has been several years since I last saw Jack, we did communicate occasionally by phone. I have fond memories of our days at SDSM&T; our early jobs at Armco Steel; and Jack's frequent sending of cards, photos, and articles which he felt would be of interest to me. Jack will certainly be missed.

Julie,
My condolences go out to you and your family. I only met your parents once or twice but I remember how nice they were. You have to go way back into your memory banks to remember me. We used to know each other in Jr. High @ Oak Grove. Take care.

Jack was a stalwart member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity when I was at the School of Mines. At the several Mines reunions I attended Jack was always there. I looked forward to seeing him in 2010 and will miss him. (SDSM&T 1958)

Dear Jim, Diane, John, Julie, Linda, Lisa, and families,
Jim and I really wish we could be there to say goodbye to your Dad. We have grown very fond of Jack through the years and will miss him much. He was a "regular" at the cabin and helped entertain Mom and Dad. It was very interesting to see the two engineers work "together" on the many projects Dad came up with over the years. Unfortunately, Jim and I are booked for a vacation in Mexico, leaving early Wed morning and are not able to get to MN. We will be thinking of all of you and wish we were there. I'm sure the house will be buzzing with all the Douthit girls there!! We'll be missing some great stories I'm sure. Jack always captured every moment through his photos which he always shared with us. We are grateful for the memories which will be with us forever. Take care and God bless all of you as you say goodbye to your Dad, Brother, Uncle, and friend, Much love, Jim, Karen, Ryan, and Adam Reiff

My association with Jack Bauch was as a fellow alumnus of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Although Jack was a dozen years ahead of me, we shared membership in the same fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. Jack was a charter member and was proud of the work he did as its first housing manager. I last visited with Jack at his home in Minneapolis in August 2007 and last talked to him on the phone just before Christmas. I will always remember the positive attitude that he had about beating the cancer. I know that many of Jack's college friends kept in good contact with him. In visits his friends, I learned even more about Jack. I value the good memories of Jack and only wished that there would have been time for a lot more.

Respectfully,

To my cousins,

Every time I close my eyes, I see Jack's smile and his eyes twinkling. I miss him and my heart still aches knowing that my uncle is gone. But I know that he is so happy up in heaven right now. He's not suffering and he has a whole lot of people to catch up with up there. I know this is a hard time for you - but stay strong. Please count on me for anything. Love, Amy
