John Bienkowski Obituary

Published by Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home on Mar. 31, 2017.
John S. Bienkowski, 69, of South Windsor passed away peacefully on Friday March 31, 2017, at the home of his daughter in South Boston, Ma. He was predeceased by his loving wife of nearly 50 years Kathryn (Poulos) Bienkowski of South Windsor. Born in Hartford CT to Stanley (Bingo) Bienkowski and Blanche (Belcher) Bienkowski, he was a lifelong resident of South Windsor before spending his final few years with his cherished daughter Janet N. Bienkowski of South Boston, Ma. He graduated from Cheney Technical High School in 1965. He was an Iron Worker before spending nearly 40 years in construction as an Operating Engineer. He was a proud, longstanding member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 478. John is survived by his two brothers, Paul and his wife Kathy Bienkowski of South Windsor, Raymond and his wife Jan Bienkowski of Manchester, and his sister Diane Myers of Somers. He leaves his beloved brother-in law Peter and his wife Nisa Poulos of Martha's Vineyard, sister-in law Janet Enes of Tolland and brother- in- law Stephen G. Poulos of South Windsor. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Known as "Johnnie B" to most, he will be remembered for the devotion and care he provided his wife during her battles with illness, as well as his exceptional pride and love of his daughter. His larger than life smile and laugh were infectious to those around him. John's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, care and compassion of Rita Murphy-Gentry, Erin O'Brien, Jeanne Jankowski, Janice Laubenstein and Angela Montrond, his longstanding caregivers. You gave him dignity and life beyond care. We are sincerely grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. His Family will receive friends for calling hours Wednesday April 5, 2017 from 5-8 at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday April 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. Janet & family, I am beyond sad for the loss of Johnny B. I love the picture you chose for his obituary. I loved him, even when he was a pain in the butt! My sincere sympathies to you all but especially Janet who never wavered in her care for her father & her mother. I'm sure they are so very proud of her. The bond between them is one you could only wish for. Rest in sweet peace with your angels & especially Kathy. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. Until we meet again.
