It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Bedford Blackburn, affectionately known as Bedford, who left us on August 23, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on May 27, 1932, in Cleveland, TN, Bedford lived a full and vibrant life, full of laughter, love, and cherished moments.
Bedford was a man of many passions. He loved spending his time outdoors camping, fishing, and tending to his beloved garden. Family was at the heart of everything he did, and he cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Bedford was also a dedicated member of his church family at First Cumberland Presbyterian, where he served for many years, sharing his love and kindness with those around him.
A proud veteran, Bedford served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to his country.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Connie Rogers (Steve), his son John Bedford Blackburn II (Alisa), and Jeff Blackburn (Sandy). He will be missed by his grandchildren, Chris Rogers, John Bedford Blackburn III (Jenny), and Justin Blackburn (Jessica), as well as his great-grandchildren, Zac, Liam, and Rose Rogers, alongside John Bedford Blackburn IV, Clara Jane Blackburn, and Irelyn Blackburn. Bedford also leaves behind his beloved sister, Sara West (Marvin).
Bedford was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura Blackburn, his devoted wife Jean Blackburn, and siblings including James "Buck" Blackburn, Dorothy "Dot" Blackburn Kimsey, Edna Brown, and Marcella McIntosh.
A celebration of Bedford's life will be held at 3 PM on Thursday August 28th at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, TN, where friends and family are invited to come together to honor this remarkable man. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 2pm until 3pm. Bedford will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery. We hope you can join us in remembering the joy and love he brought into our lives.
