John Henry Blackwell, age 86, entered peacefully into his Heavenly home on Friday, January 3, 2025, in Manchester, TN.
John was born April 2, 1938, Abingdon, VA to the late William Blackwell and late Sarah Lowe Blackwell Rudder. He loved working in his garage on vehicles in his younger years. He was an amazing Daddy to all his children; he loved each one dearly. He was loved by everyone he met - that contagious smile and laughter said it all! Thank you, Lord for being in his life and setting an example to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was recently preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dot Blackwell. Also preceding him in death is his granddaughter, Emily Stacey; stepfather, Ace Rudder; stepmother, Betty Blackwell; sister, Ruby Blackwell, brothers, Frank and Wayne Blackwell; brothers-in-law, Marcus Lowe and Michael Linville; sister-in-law, Silvia Blackwell; nephews, Troy Lowe and Jeff Blackwell; and special friend, Oakley Sanders.
John is survived by his sister, Shirley Lowe; his best friend Max, his dog; daughters, Brigetta Blackwell and Venus Lowery; bonus daughters, Shelly Stacey and Tara Mabe; sons, John “Jay” Stacey and William Blackwell; bonus son, Brad Roberts; grandchildren, Vanity, Logan (Kati), Cadance and Leah; great-granddaughters, Madilyn and Zoey; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special family members, Ethel Caudill, Angie Martin, Dee Dee Taylor, Eric Taylor and Kay Testerment.
The family would like to thank everyone for the love, kindness, prayers and support you have shown for our Daddy throughout his life.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Main Street Chapel - Farris Funeral Service with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Adam Wolfe officiating. The interment will follow and be held at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery with Brad Roberts, Logan Womble, Eric Taylor, Jerry Testerment, Joshua Testerment, and Zach Testerment serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John “Jay” Stacey, Jeff Kestner Sr, Jeff Kestner Jr, and Mike Kestner.
The family of John Blackwell is being served by Farris Funeral Service & Crematory, 427 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA 276-623-2700.
