John C. Boguski, Sr., 88, of Waymart, died Sunday morning, February 8, 2026 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, after an illness.
Born March 21, 1937 in Simpson, he was the son of the late Carl L. and Antoinette M. (Silva) Boguski.
John served honorably in the Army National Guard, receiving his discharge from active duty on January 31, 1963. He dedicated many years to his work as a telephone engineer and later served at Farview State Hospital, SCI Waymart, and Wayne County Transportation. John was a founding member of the former Waymart Volunteer Ambulance Corps., and admirably served as a member of the Waymart Volunteer Fire Company. To his family and friends, John was simply the best of men; selfless, devoted, and endlessly caring. Among his simplest joys was caring for his yard and admiring the lasting beauty of Elk Lake from his home on Bucklands Lane, a place that brought him peace throughout his life. He never missed a game, no matter how far the drive, and there was nothing he wouldn't do to bring happiness to someone he loved. His life was defined by quiet generosity and unwavering love, leaving a lasting and inspirational legacy.
He is survived by a daughter, Beth Ann Cortese and her husband, Rick, of Honesdale; two sons, Alan Boguski of South Canaan and Dennis Boguski and his wife, Colleen, of Waymart; a daughter-in-law, Mary Boguski of Texas; brothers and sister, Maggie Merrigan, Michael Boguski, and Robert Boguski; a dear friend, Emily Strausser; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John C. Boguski, Jr. and Scott Boguski; three grandsons, Arich Boguski, Scott Boguski, Jr., and Stephen Boguski; a brother, Leonard Boguski; a sister, Bernadette Blackwell; and his former wife, Barbara Boguski, to whom he remained quietly devoted throughout his life.
