Dear Jquixkly ill,
How quickly 50 -plus years have gone by since we shared some many fun times together playing bridge and raising little boys! You wouldn't allow me to leave your bridge table when I started having labor pains because there was a nurse and a doctor in the house!! So livid in my mind. You were a great friend to have! I am so sorry you have lost John but you had a beautiful life together, Love o you and the boys.

John had the room next to mine in what was then Leeds Hall, IIRC. There was a door between our rooms, locked, but transmitted sounds. I found John needed amazingly little sleep then. Maybe that tilted him into the delivery of babies! He was muscular in an age when that was not cool. His nickname then, in 1962, was "Zoogie".
I remember him with affection and am confident he rests in peace with Our Lord.

Jill and family, a part of me left when I received the news that John had passed away. As I´m sure many of his Reading friends feel, I am sorry that I didn´t sustain my relationship with John when you moved to Maryland. John was not only an excellent surgeon and chief of gynecology and enormous support to me personally, but he was as solid a person inside as he was outside and a true and trusted member of our department.
He was value driven, and had the fortitude to exhibit those values and in all of his behavior. Big as life, overwhelmingly powerful, yet soft inside. Though we in Reading will miss him, he and the John Bower stories will stay with us as long as we live. Johnny Bower, a life truly well lived!
